advanced life support, and experienced medical supervision. Life Savers Ambulance Services
managed this inter-facility paediatric transfer with continuous ICU-level care.
Case Overview
A five-day-old neonate diagnosed with pneumonia required urgent transfer from Motherhood
Hospital, Noida to BM Gupta Hospital, Uttam Nagar, Delhi for continued paediatric
management. Due to the infant’s age and clinical instability, an ICU-equipped paediatric
ambulance was selected.
Patient Condition
At the time of referral, the newborn was experiencing significant respiratory distress secondary
to pneumonia. The baby was dependent on mechanical ventilation and required uninterrupted
oxygen delivery along with continuous monitoring of vital parameters.
Transport Decision
Given the short intercity distance and the need for stable ventilatory support, a road-based ICU
paediatric ambulance was determined to be the most appropriate mode of transport. The
objective was to maintain respiratory stability while minimizing transfer-related stress.
Medical Setup
Life Savers Ambulance Services deployed a fully equipped ICU paediatric ambulance with:
- Neonatal ventilator support
- Continuous cardiac and oxygen saturation monitoring
- Emergency airway and resuscitation equipment
- Essential medications for neonatal stabilization
The transfer was supervised by trained medical personnel experienced in neonatal critical care
transport.
Execution of Transfer
The infant remained on ventilator support throughout the journey. Ventilation parameters and
vital signs were closely observed, with no episodes of desaturation or hemodynamic instability
recorded during transit.
Arrival and Handover
Upon arrival at BM Gupta Hospital, Uttam Nagar, the neonate was safely shifted from the
ambulance to the hospital ICU. A structured clinical handover was conducted, ensuring
continuity of care and clear communication with the receiving paediatric team.
Clinical Perspective
This case reflects the importance of planned, medically supervised neonatal transport in
respiratory illness. Through appropriate stabilization, monitoring, and execution, Life Savers
ensured a safe ICU paediatric transfer, preserving clinical stability until definitive in-hospital
treatment could continue.
